[2022 TAT Annual Retreat] Capacity building aimed at enhancing effective Justice delivery — Coordinating Secretary- Hajara Oniyangi
Speaking on Wednesday at the 2-day annual retreat taking place at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, Oniyangi further noted that the opportunity will also enhance the capacity of the commissioners to effectively discharge their duties using the e-solution technology recently deployed which is in tandem with the present global and national realities which seeks to make processes of work environment easier and faster and more particularly the recent global challenges occasioned by covid-19.
While thanking the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, and other Principal Officers of the Federal Ministry of Finance for making the new Tax Appeal Tribunal Rules, which made the incorporation of the new ideas and technological input to ease the administration of justice, and to enhance the delivery of quality and efficient tax dispute resolution service.
She thanked the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Muhammad Nami for his unflinching support for the Tribunal in delivering its mandate and also expressed great appreciation for the efforts of the Hon. Commissioners of the tribunal for their total commitment and dedication to duty.

She said “the Tribunal has recorded the following modest achievements at the end of the period 2021 till date:
“New Appeals filed from January – Dec 2020 are: Two hundred and seventeen (217) with approximated disputed tax value of about: ₦1,966,418,850,544.18, $470,585,269.21.
“Appeals resolved mutually or through judgement from Jan – Dec 2021 are One hundred and eleven (111) with an approximated value of about ₦7.3billion, $243,756,246.22.
“The total number of appeals pending at the various zones and various stages of hearing and determination are two hundred and forty-eight (248) with disputed tax value of over ₦213.46 billion, $3.79 billion.”
Present at the capacity building training includes Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Muhammad Nami, the Coordinating Director of the Executive Chairman’s Group, the Chairmen, and Hon. Commissioners of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, all the zonal secretaries distinguished amongst others.
The training which commenced on Wednesday, January 19 ends on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
