The legal community in Eket is abuzz with excitement as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Eket Branch kicks off its highly anticipated Bar Week, a week-long celebration of legal excellence, community engagement, and discourse on critical issues. This much has been disclosed by Ben Ndedde, the Secretary of the branch.

Highlighting Akwa Ibom’s 36-Year Journey:
The theme for this year’s Bar Week, “Akwa Ibom State, 36 Years After: The Journey So Far and The Future Potentials; The Role of Lawyers,” reflects the branch’s commitment to examining the state’s evolution over the past 36 years and charting a course for its future. Legal luminaries and thought leaders will gather to dissect the pivotal role lawyers play in shaping the destiny of Akwa Ibom State.

Public Lecture Featuring Governor Umo Eno:
A focal point of the event is a public lecture in honor of His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Chief Ambassador Assam Assam, SAN will be in attendance with several Judges, community leaders and distinguished dignitaries. The lecture titled “Electoral Malfeasance in Nigeria: The Imperative for a Bold, Courageous, and Independent Judiciary” promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of the challenges and solutions related to electoral integrity in Nigeria.

Tech and Legal Symbiosis:
In a nod to the state’s technological strides, the Bar Week also includes discussions on the “Potentials for Lawyers in a Globalized Economy.” The recent Ibom Tech Week, hosted at the Four Points by Sheraton, emphasizes Akwa Ibom’s emergence as a tech destination, and legal professionals will explore their role in sustaining this momentum.

Football Match, Fitness Walk, and Community Outreach:
Beyond legal discussions, the event embraces a holistic approach with a friendly football match between NBA Eket and other professional Association like the Nigerian Society of Engineers, promoting camaraderie among professionals. A road walk fitness exercise, started on 13th November at High Court 1 premises beside the LGA Secretariat and toured the city of Eket, emphasizes the legal community’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, participants will engage in community outreach activities, including a visit to motherless babies’ homes on Tuesday 14th November, 2023 underlining the branch’s dedication to social responsibility.
