Akpabio reveals Rivers, Bayelsa are Next to join APC – says south-south will vote Tinubu in 2027
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has suggested that Rivers and Bayelsa States may soon align with the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a potential political shift in the South-South region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio made the remark on Saturday, during a grand reception in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, held in honour of Governor Umo Eno, who formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Speaking at the event, Akpabio expressed optimism about the APC consolidating its influence in the South-South:
“Governor Sheriff of Delta State, thank you for joining the progressive family and moving the South-South in a progressive direction.
Governor Umo Eno, after you, Rivers State will just tumble. After Rivers, Bayelsa will join.”
The Senate President also took a moment to congratulate the APC on its recent political victories in the region, referencing the party’s win in Edo State:
“We won election with Governor Otu in Edo State and we produced an amiable Monday Okpebholo—congratulations once again for your victory.”
Governor Eno’s defection follows months of speculation. In April, he publicly criticized the PDP over internal wranglings, citing unresolved crises as a major reason for his eventual move to the APC.
His official defection on June 6 was marked by a well-attended ceremony in Uyo, drawing members of the Progressive Governors Forum and key APC chieftains from across the country.
The APC leadership views Eno’s defection as a strategic gain, with party insiders suggesting it could trigger a domino effect in the region as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections.
