Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Tells Commissioners: Defect With Me To APC Or Resign
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has delivered a firm message to his cabinet: anyone unwilling to join him in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) must resign from their positions.
Speaking during the State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, Governor Eno confirmed the rumors that have been circulating for weeks — he’s leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.
“It’s no longer news that I’m switching parties. If you don’t know that by now, I don’t know what else you know,” he told his commissioners and appointees.

The governor clarified that while no one is being forced to defect, remaining in his cabinet while belonging to another political party is not an option.
“You’re free not to join me — absolutely free. But you can’t be in my executive council and play anti-party. This is not a threat; it is what it is,” Eno declared. “I won’t beg you to come along.”
Governor Eno explained that his decision stems from the deepening crisis within the PDP, especially at the national level. He expressed concerns that internal dysfunction could jeopardize electoral victories — even if they are won at the polls.
“I love the PDP, but I can’t guarantee a smooth path to re-election with the way things are going. Even with all our achievements in Akwa Ibom, a technical issue like a wrongly signed nomination form could cost us everything,” he said.
The governor emphasized that loyalty to leadership is essential in governance and that political alignment is part of that expectation.
