ALSN Targets Blue Economy Development With October Maritime Course

As attention continues to grow around the potential of Nigeria’s maritime resources, the Admiralty Lawyers’ Society of Nigeria (ALSN) is set to hold a specialised training programme focused on Maritime Safety, Maritime Security and the Blue Economy.

ALSN said it is committed to driving the development and diversification of Nigeria’s Blue Economy through the actualisation of its core objectives and in line with the Federal Government’s Blue Economy agenda.

The Society’s training approach covers different dimensions of maritime activity, with maritime safety and security forming important components of its Blue Economy programme.

Its broader objectives include improving understanding and application of maritime practices, monitoring maritime legislation and policies, enhancing port activities through advocacy and situation monitoring, and promoting synergy among persons and agencies involved in maritime-related activities.

The October programme is expected to provide an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of the legal, operational and institutional dimensions of maritime safety and security while examining the wider economic possibilities associated with the Blue Economy.

ALSN’s corporate training programmes also extend to maritime agencies, security agencies, ministries and private establishments whose operations have a connection with the maritime sector.

The Society said training of this nature can provide law-enforcement personnel with knowledge of maritime crime investigation and prosecution, while staff of banks, insurance companies and other Blue Economy-related sectors can acquire skills relevant to their professional responsibilities.

With the October course, ALSN is seeking to further strengthen the pool of professionals equipped to participate meaningfully in Nigeria’s maritime and Blue Economy development.
