Anambra Police Arrest MASSOB Member Plotting to Enforce May 30 Sit-At-Home
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Friday Obeta, a 37-year-old member of the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), for attempting to enforce the pro-Biafran group’s declared sit-at-home on May 30.
The sit-at-home was announced by MASSOB as a way to honor the heroes of the 1967-1970 civil war and was planned to be observed across the South-East region.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesman, Obeta was apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Nnewi following intelligence reports on the group’s plan to enforce the shutdown.

During the arrest, the police recovered a motorcycle, a branded MASSOB t-shirt, and an operational identification card belonging to the outlawed group.
The suspect reportedly confessed to being both a member and an informant for MASSOB and has provided valuable information that is helping police efforts to arrest other members of the group.
In response, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has instructed officers to intensify operations against the group. He also urged heightened surveillance to prevent any unlawful gatherings across the state.
