The convocation ceremony was inaugurated with an enlightening lecture delivered by the erudite Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Diocese. His impassioned address emphasized the imperative of unity amidst diversity, urging all stakeholders to foster camaraderie and eschew tribal sentiments for a harmonious academic environment.

In his discourse, he emphasized the crucial role of effective leadership in unifying diverse groups within the nation to leverage their collective strengths, drawing an analogy of an Ochestra where the conductor orchestrates harmony among different instruments.

He lamented the tendency to rely on state creation as a solution instead of actively harnessing the potential of our diversity, noting that rather than increasing prosperity, we often opt to create more bureaucratic structures. In his words, “Rather than create more food on the table, we, as a country, prefer to create more tables”.

Bishop Kukah’s lecture resonated deeply with the audience, evoking the insightful words of Chidi Odinkalu, who likened Bishop Kukah’s altar to a platform, with the entire country as his congregation.
