“APC Posters Everywhere, Opposition Materials Vandalised” — NDC Candidate Raises Alarm in Lagos

Ladipo Johnson, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Lagos Central, has raised concerns over the alleged persistent vandalisation of campaign billboards, banners and other materials belonging to opposition political parties in Lagos.

Johnson made the allegation on Sunday at the grand finale of the third edition of the Bamofin Ladipo Johnson Football Tournament Cup held at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos.

He described the alleged destruction of opposition campaign materials as undemocratic and indicative of intolerance towards political competition.

According to him, while campaign materials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were prominently displayed across the city, those of opposition parties were allegedly being removed or vandalised.

“APC campaign posters, banners and billboards are everywhere, but hardly will you see opposition parties’ campaign materials in the public space.

“This is an undemocratic and uncivil attitude that needs to be curtailed and stopped,” he said.

Johnson urged political parties and their supporters to respect the rights of other parties and candidates to campaign freely, stressing that peaceful political participation was essential to credible elections.

He also called on Nigerians to vote according to their conscience in the forthcoming elections and ensure that their votes count.

The senatorial candidate also congratulated the winners of the football tournament, saying the competition was designed to encourage young people to develop their sporting talents while pursuing their education.

Johnson described football as a viable career path for youths and encouraged participants to combine their sporting ambitions with education.

“Football is a good career path that youths can venture into to earn a living.

“The youths are also encouraged to further their education to complement their chosen football career path,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fortune FC of Mushin emerged winners of the male category and received a cash prize of N750,000.

Muyideen Bello, NDC Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government Area, commended Johnson for organising the tournament, describing it as an avenue for young people to showcase their talents and explore opportunities for future careers.

“This is a talent-hunt opportunity for soccer lovers and a platform to identify young talents for future career development,” Bello said.

The NDC Woman Leader, Fausat Jaji, advised the youths to remain focused and pursue their chosen careers with dedication.

She also commended Johnson for using the tournament to promote youth development through sports.

“I thank NDC candidate for organising this tournament for youths across the Lagos Central Senatorial District,” she said.

Earlier, an NDC chieftain, Adegboyega Abolarin, urged Johnson to sustain the initiative and continue creating platforms through which young people could discover and develop their talents.

He said sustained investment in youth development through sports and education would help create more opportunities for young people across the district.
