Benue Council Chair Breaks Down as Gunmen Kill 20, Including Toddler, Near Military Base
More than 20 people, including a two-year-old child, have been killed in a wave of brutal attacks on Aondana and other communities in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
The chairman of the council, Ormin Torsar Victor, confirmed the incident in an emotional video, openly criticizing the persistent violence and what he described as the federal government’s inaction.
According to Torsar, the attacks hit multiple villages, including Tewa Biana — a community disturbingly close to a military base. Despite this proximity, he said, security forces failed to respond during the deadly assault.

“They say local security doesn’t have the mandate to engage these people — that only the federal government can approve it. So, should my people keep dying while we wait?” the visibly shaken chairman asked.
He shared heartbreaking details of entire families being wiped out, including a father and his two adult sons recently buried in Tewa Biana. The psychological weight, he said, had become too much to bear.
“I don’t care about being chairman anymore,” he added. “A child of two years old was butchered. This is too much.”
Torsar also pointed out the symbolic significance of Aondana village, noting that it is home to former Benue First Lady Mrs. Eunice Ortom, the Tugwe people, and Bishop Banagbe. At least 20 people were confirmed killed in that village alone.
Desperate and emotional, he concluded: “Whatever will happen, will happen. I don’t know what to do anymore.”
