“Blatant Lies!” — Air Peace Fires Back at Oshiomhole Over Extortion, Overbooking Allegations
Air Peace has strongly refuted recent allegations made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, describing his claims of extortion and overbooking as “deliberate falsehoods.”
In a statement shared on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter), the airline accused the senator of lying. “The Senator lied blatantly when he accused Air Peace of extorting its passengers. We challenge Senator Oshiomhole to present a single shred of evidence,” the statement read.
Air Peace maintained that the flight in question was not overbooked and that no tickets were sold after check-in closed. The airline also revealed that the plane departed with more than 30 empty seats, further debunking claims of overbooking.

“None of our staff extorted any passenger. Everyone on board had purchased their tickets well before check-in closed,” the company stated.
Responding to the senator’s claims of chaos and disorganisation, Air Peace countered with accusations of unruly behavior by Oshiomhole himself. According to the airline, the senator arrived late and caused a disturbance at the airport, even jumping on the baggage conveyor belt and blocking access to the terminal.
“He was informed he had missed check-in, yet he began to create a scene. His conduct was violent, shameful, and disruptive,” the airline claimed, calling on the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to release CCTV footage of the incident for public viewing.
Earlier, Senator Oshiomhole had accused the airline of running disorganised operations and said he missed his Lagos–Abuja flight due to mismanagement. He told reporters he had checked in online the night before but was denied boarding the next morning because the flight was allegedly full.
He further alleged that his luggage had already departed with his assistant, leaving him stranded and forced to spend ₦1.6 million on unplanned hotel expenses for himself and a visiting Ghanaian delegation.
“They overbooked the flight and refused to board me even with a valid online check-in. They tried to give me special treatment, but I declined. What about the ordinary Nigerians who face this every day?” he asked.
Oshiomhole claimed 20 to 30 other passengers were also affected and accused the airline of racketeering by prioritizing last-minute, high-paying customers over those who booked in advance.
The heated exchange between the senator and the airline has now escalated into a full-blown public spat, with both sides standing their ground and the public awaiting FAAN’s response regarding the CCTV footage.
