CBN Unveils Youth Empowerment Plans for Nigeria’s Future
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reiterated its commitment to empowering young Nigerians by bridging financial access gaps, fostering innovation, and ensuring active participation in policy formulation.
CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, made this declaration during a youth-focused workshop titled “The Youths are Here,” held in Abuja on Friday. Cardoso emphasized the bank’s dedication to building a more inclusive and sustainable future for Nigeria’s youth.
Represented by the Deputy Governor of Economic Policy, Muhammad Dani Abdullahi, Cardoso outlined the CBN’s strategy to strengthen collaborations with civil society, international organizations, and the private sector. These partnerships, he explained, will amplify youth-led initiatives, create jobs, and drive innovation—essential elements for national and global progress.

“The CBN is committed to forging strategic partnerships to empower young people and underserved communities,” Abdullahi stated. “By working with urgency and purpose, we can align our efforts with the Pact of the Future to create a Nigeria where youth can dream boldly and innovate confidently.”
In addition to financial inclusion, the CBN is focused on amplifying youth participation in economic policymaking. Cardoso stressed that policies must reflect the aspirations of the younger generation, and the bank aims to create platforms that foster meaningful engagement between youth and policymakers.
Concluding his remarks, Cardoso called on all stakeholders to transform ideas into tangible outcomes with clear timelines and measurable goals, ensuring youth empowerment thrives with strong collaboration and accountability.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria stands resolute in its dedication to this cause,” Cardoso assured. “We are unwavering in our commitment to economic and youth development, and we look forward to seeing the transformative impact of your efforts.”
With Nigeria’s rapidly growing youth population, the CBN’s renewed focus on inclusion and innovation marks a significant step towards harnessing their potential for national development. Through youth-friendly credit policies, capacity-building programs, and support for emerging sectors like the green economy and digital transformation, the CBN is positioning youth to become key drivers of Nigeria’s economic future.
Yusuf Mohammed, representing the United Nations (UN) country director, echoed this support, emphasizing that the global body is backing Nigerian youth in their quest for a better country. Mohammed urged the youth to step forward, innovate with compassion and integrity, and seek partnerships.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, also expressed his readiness to design and implement youth-focused strategies to unlock their potential for national development. He encouraged the CBN to set up a dedicated youth desk to drive youth empowerment programs and policies.
