COAS Oluyede to Soldiers: Crush Terrorists, Protect Nigeria’s Future
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a no-nonsense directive to Nigerian soldiers: crush terrorists without mercy and eliminate all threats to national peace. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Army’s Biannual Conference held in Maiduguri, Oluyede rallied commanding officers and troops to commit fully to the fight against insurgency.
“There is no debating our mission—we must neutralize these enemies of peace,” the Army chief declared, urging troops to give no reprieve in their campaign against terrorism.
During the three-day conference, top military leaders engaged in intense discussions on strategies to combat insecurity and safeguard the nation. Oluyede emphasized that the outcome of these deliberations must be implemented without delay.

“In the coming weeks, we will introduce more combat enablers into our operations,” he announced, adding that while advanced weaponry is important, the true power of the Nigerian Army lies in the determination and discipline of its soldiers.
He stressed the importance of leadership, stating, “Every officer must mentor and guide the younger generation in the right direction.”
Addressing the broader impact of terrorism, Oluyede warned that the current threats posed by insurgents endanger Nigeria’s cultural and social foundations. He noted that the quality of discussion at the conference reflected the strategic thinking needed to position the Army for future challenges.
“From what we’ve seen during this conference, I’m confident we’ve met our objectives,” he said. “We will implement the recommendations provided to strengthen both current and future military engagements.”
Oluyede’s firm stance and the conference outcomes signal a new phase in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism, with the military set to ramp up operations across key hotspots.
