Court Sentences Oil Marketers Mamman Nasir Ali, Christian Taylor to 14 Years Each For ₦2.2bn Fuel Subsidy Fraud
Justice Mojisola Dada of the Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced oil marketers Mamman Nasir Ali and Christian Taylor to 14 years in prison each for their involvement in a ₦2.2 billion oil subsidy scam.
The sentencing followed their re-arraignment alongside their company, Nasaman Oil Services Limited, on an amended 57-count charge. The charges ranged from conspiracy to obtain money by false pretence to forgery and the use of fraudulent documents.
Previously arraigned on 49 counts, the defendants were accused of receiving fraudulent subsidy payments by falsely claiming to have imported millions of litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol.

One of the charges detailed how the group conspired to collect ₦749.9 million from the Federal Government in November 2011 by claiming it was a subsidy for over 10 million litres of fuel imported through SEATAC Petroleum Ltd and MT Liquid Fortune.
In another instance, they allegedly obtained ₦1.48 billion using a similar scheme in April 2011.
Despite their plea of not guilty, the court found overwhelming evidence of deliberate deceit. Justice Dada ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had “proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.”
She condemned the fraudulent subsidy claims as not only causing massive financial losses to the country but also damaging the credibility of Nigeria’s Petroleum Support Fund.
Two additional suspects, Oluwaseun Ogunbambo and Olabisi Abdul-Afeez, remain at large. Authorities continue to urge them to surrender and face trial.
The EFCC, led by prosecutor Seiduh Atteh, presented several witnesses and documents that were admitted as evidence, sealing the case after years of investigation and legal proceedings.
Originally presided over by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, the case was reassigned to Justice Dada after Onigbanjo stepped down.
