Court Sets September 22 for Hearing in Anyanwu’s Suit Over PDP National Secretary Dispute
A Federal High Court in Abuja has set September 22, 2025, to hear a case aimed at settling the dispute over who is the legitimate National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Justice Mohammed Umar fixed the new hearing date on Thursday after receiving a letter from PDP’s South-East National Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, requesting an adjournment.
The case, filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu and marked FHC/ABJ/CS/254/2025, has gone through a series of twists. Initially, Justice Inyang Ekwo was handling the matter and had scheduled a judgment for March 25. But before the ruling could be delivered, Anyanwu filed an application seeking to amend his claims and include more parties.

Following the amendment request, the court adjourned to May 19 and allowed the inclusion of the PDP, Udeh Okoye (another National Vice Chairman), Ali Odefa, and Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo as additional defendants. The case was later reassigned to Justice Umar.
At the latest court session, plaintiff’s counsel, Mrs. U.C. Njemanze-Aku, informed the court about the fifth defendant’s request to move the case to September. While she didn’t oppose the adjournment, she suggested an earlier date would be better. The defence lawyers—including Senior Advocates Paul Harris Ogbole and Paul Erokoro—agreed with her suggestion.
However, Erokoro told the court that the Supreme Court had already ruled on similar issues, stating they were internal matters for political parties to resolve. He said he plans to submit that judgment as part of his argument in the current case.
Justice Umar instructed all parties to respond to Anyanwu’s motion for amendment and confirmed that both the motion and any objections will be heard on September 22.
