EBF Governor Mourns Passage of Professor Ben Nwabueze and Justice Fatun Odohi Riman
We were deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Professor Ben Nwabueze, SAN at the age of 92 years. His passing is a great loss not only to his family and loved ones but also to the legal community and the nation as a whole. Professor Nwabueze was one of the voices of reason in a society seemingly running rudderless with democratic principles casually mortgaged on the altar of partisanship and patronage. He was a highly respected and influential figure in the field of constitutionalism and the rule of law. His contributions will leave an indelible mark on the country’s legal landscape.
He dedicated his life to the study, practice and teaching of law in our dear country, practicing all he preached particularly in the area of constitutional law. He was known for his deep understanding of the Nigerian Constitution and his unwavering commitment to upholding its principles. Throughout his career, he played a pivotal role in shaping legal discourse and advocating for justice and equality.
As a teacher, Professor Nwabueze inspired generations of students with his vast knowledge and passion for the law, and dedication to excellence. His lectures were renowned for their clarity and depth, making complex legal concepts comprehensible to all. Many of his former students have gone on to become successful lawyers and judges, hopefully carrying forward his legacy of integrity and professionalism.
The passing of Professor Nwabueze leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. His intellectual prowess, legal acumen, and unwavering commitment to justice are unparalleled. His contributions to the legal profession and his tireless efforts to uphold the rule of law will be remembered for generations to come.
During this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with Professor Ben Nwabueze’s family, friends, colleagues, and students. May they find solace in the knowledge that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations of legal professionals.
