EFCC Seeks ₦100m Bond Forfeiture as Erokoro SAN Stands Surety for Chief Kadiri Over Missing P&ID Director James Nolan
Chief George Kadiri, a traditional leader and retired civil servant, has been arrested and brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja for failing to appear in connection with the ongoing $9.6 billion Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) fraud case.
Kadiri stood as surety for James Nolan, a British national and director of P&ID, who fled during trial. His repeated absence led Justice Peter Lifu to issue a bench warrant, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) executed prior to Thursday’s court session.
Nolan had been granted ₦100 million bail, which was revoked by Justice Ahmed Mohammed on September 28, 2022, after he absconded. The court then ordered security agencies and Interpol to secure his arrest.

In November 2022, Kadiri filed a motion requesting more time to explain why his bail bond should not be forfeited. However, his continued absence prompted the EFCC to pursue a fresh arrest warrant.
At Thursday’s hearing, EFCC counsel Bala Sanga confirmed Kadiri’s arrest and requested the court to order the forfeiture of his bond. In response, Kadiri’s lawyer, O.J. Aboge, asked for an adjournment to prepare arguments against the forfeiture.
Supporting the request, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Paul Erokoro, who appeared for the defendants, offered to stand surety for Kadiri. Erokoro described Kadiri as a respected traditional chief from Gwagwalada and assured the court that he would not flee.
The EFCC did not oppose the new bail arrangement or the adjournment request. Justice Lifu subsequently ordered Kadiri’s release to Erokoro and scheduled a hearing on the bond forfeiture for November 5.
James Nolan remains at large. He was first arraigned in August 2020 alongside Lurgi Consult Limited in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/143/2020 and is currently facing trial in at least five other related cases before the same court.
