Federal Workers to Tinubu: Settle 10-Month Arrears by June 30 or Face Nationwide Protests
Federal civil servants, under the umbrella of the Federal Workers Forum, have issued a passionate appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging the Federal Government to urgently settle outstanding financial obligations, including wage awards, promotion arrears, and other allowances.
In a letter addressed directly to the President — and copied to the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives — the forum highlighted the worsening plight of federal workers, particularly since the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Signed by Andrew Emelieze (National Coordinator), Itoro Obong (National Secretary), and Razaq Oseni (Publicity Secretary), the letter emphasized rising frustration within the federal workforce. The group stressed that while a new national minimum wage was introduced ten months ago, its full implementation remains largely unfulfilled.

“We call on you to ensure complete implementation of the minimum wage by June 30, 2025, and to immediately settle ten months of arrears dating back to August 2024,” the letter stated.
Among the demands are:
-
Payment of the 40% peculiar allowance with June salaries, plus ten months’ arrears
-
Introduction of a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) by June
-
Full settlement of promotion arrears, particularly for judicial workers, academic staff, and healthcare employees
-
Restoration of leave bonuses, payment of a 13th-month incentive, hazard allowances, and a long service award
The forum also criticized the selective disbursement of wage awards, insisting that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) must receive their rightful payments.
In a strong warning, the group advised against any government attempt to borrow from the contributory pension fund, declaring such actions as a betrayal of trust.
They expressed hope for swift action from the government, noting that a prompt response would prevent mass protests and public demonstrations from disgruntled federal employees.
