FIDA Lagos Branch marks International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation
Today marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, a crucial moment for us to reaffirm our commitment to ending this harmful practice and safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and girls worldwide.
As the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Lagos Branch, I urge each of you to join hands in our collective efforts to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) once and for all. FGM is a violation of human rights, causing irreparable harm to its victims physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It perpetuates gender inequality and discrimination, robbing girls of their dignity and autonomy.
Together, we have the power to make a difference. Let us advocate for legislative reforms, raise awareness, provide support to survivors, and work tirelessly to change attitudes and beliefs that perpetuate this harmful tradition.
