Fraud: Court Orders Gtbank to pay 5.5m to Diasporian

A Lagos High court sitting at Igbosere, Lagos State has ordered Guarantee Trust Bank to pay a Diasporian, Mr. Bartholomew Udeze, the sum of 5.5m Naira.

Mr Udeze who resides in Europe raised alarm in 2017 when the money he deposited into his account with GTBank was fraudulently withdrawn with bankers Cheque.

The bank denied responsibility for the fraud claiming that a rougue lawyer deceived them with fraudulent court documents.

Consequently, Mr. Udeze had dragged the bank to court, claiming among other things for a refund of the sum of 5.584,774.72 fraudulently withdrawn from his savings account.

The court after hearing the submissions of Bridget Edokwe Esq and  Chief Adewale Adeniyi, counsels to the plaintiff and the defendant respectively,  in addition to documents filed, ordered the bank to pay Mr Udeze the sum of 5.5million Naira.

The court further referred the claims for 500 million Naira damages for full trial in accordance with the High  court rules.

The defendant counsel vowed to appeal the order of the court.
