Ganduje: If Nigerians Want a One-Party State, APC Won’t Object
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has brushed off concerns raised by opposition leaders about Nigeria moving towards a one-party system. Speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ganduje said APC’s dominance is not being forced, but rather a product of persuasion and the party’s performance.
“If Nigerians are willingly moving to the APC because of our style of governance, there’s nothing wrong with that,” he said. “Even China is a global power today with a one-party system. We’re not forcing it, but if that’s what Nigerians want, we can’t oppose it.”
Ganduje criticized the idea of excessive political parties, claiming it complicates governance. “Too many parties spoil governance just like too many cooks spoil the soup,” he noted.

The APC chairman had just brought three PDP senators from Kebbi State to meet with President Tinubu, confirming their planned defection to the ruling party. He described the move as part of the President’s strategic initiative to strengthen the APC not just in numbers but in quality of membership.
“Underground negotiations have been ongoing, and now these senators have resolved to join our great party. This is happening across the country — lawmakers from other parties are decamping to the APC almost weekly,” Ganduje stated.
He concluded by assuring that the defection process would be smooth and constitutionally compliant, highlighting the APC’s political skill in managing such transitions.
