Gbagi: Court Strikes Out Charge Against Hotel Ex-Workers That Were Stripped Naked by Ex-Minister
A Magistrate Court in Effurum Delta State today Struck Out the Charges against ex-hotel workers and former staff of ex-minister, Chief Kenneth Gbagi for want of diligent prosecution.
The charge filed by the Commissioner of police Delta State (Charge No: ME/147c/2020) against Gloria Oguzie (f), Victor Ephraim(m), Roselyn Okiemute(f) and Achibong Precious (f) for stealing was struct out after police withdrew the charges.
Chief Kenneth Gbagi had accused his former workers of stealing from his hotel (Signatious Hotel and Suites) and stripped them naked in public as punishment. He also recorded their naked video and released it on social media.
The Public condemnation that greeted the video made him file formal complaints against the ex-workers before the police for stealing.
Upon the calling of the matter before the magistrate, the Prosecutor made an oral application to withdraw the charge on the ground that the matter was before the State Criminal Investigation Department and he was instructed to withdraw the charge after due investigation of the allegations and inability of the nominal complainant – Chief Kenneth Gbagi – to report to the Police to prepare for trial.
The defence team led by Mr. Kunle Edun did not object to the withdrawal.
The Magistrate struck out the charge based on the application of prosecution and upon the strength of S353 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Delta State, 2017. He thereafter discharged the accused persons.
