The President of the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN has declared the 2023 Annual General Conference Open.

The Conference holding in Abuja is scheduled to take place from August 25 till September 1, 2023.

In a Press conference at the Association’s Secretariat, the NBA boss while speaking on the Theme of the conference “GETTING IT RIGHT” Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation Building” stated that it is high time the Nation do things differently.

He noted that it is important for the NBA to get it right since the nation, Nigeria has all the resources in place to give its success the requisite “push”.

He further stated that the bar has carefully selected an array of notable members of the bar, to work as members of the conference planning committee 2023, ably chaired by Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN.

According to him “The NBA must take the lead to get it right; we have to get it right in everything we do because we are blessed with all the potentials we will need to get it right

“It is for us to find it, It is for us to discover it, It is for us to take the lead in providing leadership and providing direction to the people of this country” he said.

Maikyau also noted that its administration is prepared to “take the “bull by its horns”, adding that same is what it hopes to show case at the conference.

He emphasized that the government will be “called into account” by the conference, which has began by the national dialogue held earlier in the year.

To him, the primary reason for choosing the conference Theme is the need to reform the nation to find it’s rightful place in the comity of nations.

Present at the press conference were the President of the NBA Mr Yakubu Maikyau OON, SAN, Chairman of the 2023 AGCPC, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, Alternate Chairperson of the AGCPC, Mrs Oyikan Badejo,  NBA Secretary Mr Adesina Adegbite, Mrs Lora Alakija, Mrs Nkiru Okeke, Mrs Linda Bala NBA first Vice President, Mrs Rhodes Prevail among others.

The conference, chairman of the 2023 Conference Planning Committee, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, on the other hand emphasized the need for registration to commence immediately as there will be no room for extension.

According to him “We have chosen this year’s conference theme, because we genuinely want things to be done right in the country. We must be able to show how this nation can be built on a solid foundation, therefore as we expect government to “work the talk” so also we lawyers are expected to also “work the talk”.

He harped on the need for lawyers to take advantage of the early bed registration while it last, saying “The Early bird will not be extended, once we get to the end we move on, there will be no “abeg ” he noted.

Concluding he emphasized the need for advertisements and sponsorship for the conference, urging members for their cooperation to have a successful conference.

Also speaking at the Press conference, the Alternate Chairperson of the AGCPC, Mrs Oyikan Badejo, noted that the committee is positioned to ensure that the 2023 conference is nothing but a huge success.

Addressing the press she stated “We are here to ensure that this conference becomes the reference point. Make no mistakes, it is a daunting task to put together a conference of this magnitude and for the number of days. We have done it successfully for several years and we will make it better this year God being our helper and with your support’.
