Governor bans VIO permanently, urges FRSC to stay off Lagos roads
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has placed a permanent ban on the operations of the state’s Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIOs).
Ambode announced the permanent ban on Tuesday, May 16, and also urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to restrict its activities to major highways and keep off Lagos streets.
The government, on May 4, announced a temporary ban on VIOs after receiving complaints about the officers’ behavior while discharging their duties.

“But we all believe that the VIOs’ activities should be technologically driven and more. These will be seen soon,” he added.
However, both Ayorinde and Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi denied, at the time, that the VIOs had been permanently banned saying that they had only gone for training to improve their services in line with global best practices.
