Hijab Controversy: Lawyers tackle NBA President over Support for hijab during call to Bar
Nigerian Lawyers have criticized the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, President Mr AB Mahmoud SAN, for his subtle support for the use of hijab during call to Bar ceremony.
The NBA President had earlier shared a picture of his daughter being called to the New York Bar wearing her hijab and described the controversy generated by the refusal to call a hijab wearing law student to Bar, as needless.

Many lawyers have called out the NBA president, reminding him that New York is different from Nigeria.
Here are some responses
You are a disappointment to the Nigerian Bar. New Yorker do not wear wig and gown and that should count for something at least. This is Nigeria, not New York – we do not share their values. Slavery is over.

The Americans bar does not require a wig and gown. There

See them shifting goal posts
— Oma Igala (@mr_kay_bee) December 15, 2017
I'm seconding the brother that said the goal post is being shifted. I mean, it sounds ludacris to hear that because of a piece of fabric, you would be denied the honor you've worked for. Let me know if I'm wrong

Every place has its laws. You can't go to the club with bathroom slippers. You can't go to some churches without scarves. If you don't obey the law, you are sent out. Simple as that

Attached here is a link to what I found on the legal practitioner act on conditions for entitlement to be called to the bar. It's no 4. https://t.co/jtnAgHYJHA . Let me know what you think. ANd if there is any other law lemme see it please.

One could as well say needless to wear wig and gown in court or at call to bar!

More like being in a relationship that against exposing your hair and knowingly ventured in a profession that stipulates showing your hair. And you want the law to bend for you because you cannot follow the ethics of your profession.. That my dear is insanity

You guys are starting something that may turn into a free for all & we wont be able to fully comprehend Imagine Orunmila worshippers insisting on wearing their egungun attire… Lol

Sir. What is the point of being a lawyer if you'll rather break rules than push for reforms the right way. I thought its what u stand for.

It is disappointing that @abmtwitt has released 2 tweets on this issue today whereas he said nothing when Kayode Bello was rusticated by NLS

Hypocrisy!!!
Are you not part of NLS disciplinary committee and council meeting?
Why didn't you tell them there to allow people dress as American bar dress?
— Mojevwe (@OJEZS) December 15, 2017
Sir, as i understand it, there's no controversy about it because the ethics and rules are clear. Until it is reviewed, it remains what it is. We shouldn't shift the post out of the blues, New York and Nigeria apply different criteria /rules for call.
— ⚠️ O ⚠️ (@WordWarlock) December 15, 2017
it is on the above premises I strongly submit that @abmtwitt should be immediately IMPEACHED & he has betrayed confidence reposed in him.
— Oladeji Olalekan 🇺🇦Ї🇮🇱 (@Princeola82) December 15, 2017
It goes to question that @abmtwitt can't be seen as neutral but one taking side against authority of Body of Benchers. This is unprecedented
— Oladeji Olalekan 🇺🇦Ї🇮🇱 (@Princeola82) December 15, 2017
Bro don't say this please… Except u are saying "Dress the way you please" as a lawyer then fine. So if I'm a JuJu worshiper n my religion allows me tie red cloth on my head – you would say no big deal about it – wearing a red cloth on a judiciary attire.
— Harrison Akadidi (@HarrisonAkadidi) December 15, 2017
This is absolutely not voice of New Brave Bar but of elite bigotry. It is disturbing u can come here holding view against Benchers
