Lawyer Writes Ijebu Ode L.G. Chair, Demands Records Of Statutory Federal Allocations
The Chairman, Human Rights’ Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ijebu Ode branch; Moruff O. Balogun, Esq., has written a letter to the Executive Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government i.e MR BABATUNDE EMILOLA GAZAL; requesting for the records of statutory federal allocations received on behalf of the council since 2021.
The lawyer made the application under the provisions of Freedom of Information Act, 2011 which allows any person to access or request information, whether or not contained in any written form, which is in the custody or possession of any public official, agency or institution.
Mr. Balogun stated in his letter dated 12th day of September, 2023, that the request is necessary in the interest of peace, transparency and accountability, and to further clear the air on the ongoing brouhaha bordering on the alleged diversion of the Local Government funds.
“Sir, the Act under which the right to access records is derived allows you the maximum period of seven (7) days to make the information requested for available after the application” he stated.
