Malami Defends Buhari’s Legacy: Says Corruption Didn’t Thrive Under His Watch, Cites Over 1,000 Convictions and $2 Billion Recovered
The immediate past Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has asserted that corruption did not flourish during the tenure of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during an interview, on Tuesday night, Malami emphasized that Buhari maintained a firm anti-corruption stance while in office and that the administration achieved significant progress in tackling high-profile graft cases.
He highlighted that the government secured thousands of convictions linked to corruption and recovered substantial amounts of looted funds.

“During the period of President Muhammadu Buhari, corruption was not thriving at all,” Malami stated. “If you talk of convictions associated with high-profile corruption cases, the government recorded convictions in thousands.”
He also revealed that approximately $2 billion in stolen funds was recovered during Buhari’s administration.
Malami further credited the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) under Buhari for increasing financial transparency across government institutions.
