According to Mr Mahmoud ” The current NBA leadership succession and election model are expensive, Primordial, Obsolete, Risky and may throw up mediocrity. Our existing system does not ensure that the best candidate will emerge. It ensures the primacy of politics over professionalism.

According to Mr Mahmoud, the committee is to submit its report and recommendations within six weeks of its inauguration for adoption at the National Executive Committee and General Meeting of the Association.

Mr Mahmoud has since his swearing-in as NBA President in August 2016, following a novel procedure of universal suffrage and online voting election,  indicated his interest to the change  leadership selection process of the association from universal suffrage election overwhelmingly adopted in 2015 by members,  many of whom voted for the first time in 2016,  to a model that will ensure Succession in Office by Officers of the Association.

Mr Mahmoud referred the committee to consider the leadership selection process of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN, which currently practices a delegate system where the officers of the Institute emerge by seamless Succession.

If the committee adopts Mr Mahmoud’s proposal, which is very likely, election into the office of the President of the Association will be by Succession and the universal suffrage which many members of the Association had fought for many years, before its adoption in 2015,  may be Discarded and a delegate or semi-delegate system adopted.
