Membership cannot be compelled either directly or indirectly. Anybody aggrieved about compulsion of membership can sue at any time. Nothing is sacrosanct about the NBA. It is like any other membership based NGO only that its members are restricted to lawyers only. The National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADL) is also registered under part C and it’s membership is restricted to lawyers only. No association lasts forever. The population of lawyers in Nigeria is too high to be forced into a central association far from its members whose welfare it is supposed to take care of. Time for alternative platform for lawyers is ripe.
