NHRC declares emergency on treatment of complaints

In a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Media, Fatimah Agwai, the Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Oti Ovrawah, said the emergency declaration was to tackle emerging institutional challenges and improve response capacity of the commission in the treatment of complaints bordering on human rights violations.
Ovrawah who stated this during a meeting with staff of the commission recently in Abuja, noted that the geometric increase in the number of complaints now being received by the commission and the statutory responsibility of the commission to ensure prompt and diligent consideration of all cases necessitated the recent redeployment of more staff to the Department of Protection and Investigation.
