Nigerian Army Neutralizes Several Bandits in Fierce Clash, Apprehends Suspected Arms Smuggler in Plateau State
Troops from the 3 Division under Operation SAFE HAVEN, part of the larger Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, have successfully neutralized numerous bandits and intercepted a suspected arms smuggler in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
On July 3, 2025, the Nigerian Army carried out a clearance mission across the challenging terrains of Tulus and Hokk communities near the Plateau–Nasarawa border. During the operation, the troops clashed with armed militias in Hokk, resulting in a brief but fierce firefight that led to the deaths of several bandits. The remaining militants fled into the dense surrounding forests.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted an extensive sweep of the area and continue to maintain control through a combination of mobile and static patrols designed to prevent any resurgence of criminal activity.

A statement from the Army detailed the operation, highlighting the ongoing commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the region. It noted that despite no further direct engagements, the presence of the troops is actively disrupting attempts by bandits to regroup.
Later that same day, at approximately 5:45 pm, the soldiers acted on credible intelligence to apprehend a suspected gunrunner in Mangar, Daffo District of Bokkos LGA. The individual was intercepted at a checkpoint while transporting arms and ammunition on a motorcycle.
The suspect, along with the seized weapons, is now in custody as investigations continue. Follow-up operations are underway to dismantle the larger arms smuggling network operating in the area.
These successful operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s determination to eliminate criminal syndicates and curb the spread of illegal weapons, reinforcing peace and security within the Joint Operations Area.
