“Obidients Are Free to Support Obi, But I Stand With Atiku” — Dele Momodu Declares Ahead of ADC Coalition Primaries

Chief Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reaffirmed his strong support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate under the new opposition coalition.
Speaking on a Politics News Program on Monday, Momodu said his support for Atiku does not diminish the rights of other groups, such as the Obidients, to campaign for their preferred candidates like Peter Obi. According to him, his backing is based on personal conviction and democratic principles.

“My best choice is Atiku, and that’s what I expect Obidients or Amaechi supporters to also express about their candidates. This is a game of numbers,” Momodu stated, stressing that political support should be open and competitive.
He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is subtly pushing for a southern candidate to emerge in the ADC because they fear Atiku’s national appeal. “The moment they began smear campaigns against Atiku, it became clear they’re threatened by his candidacy,” he said.
Momodu added that former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike—once a viable southern option—can no longer be considered since he now supports President Bola Tinubu.
Reinforcing his democratic stance, Momodu called for all aspirants in the ADC coalition—Atiku, Obi, Amaechi—to test their popularity in a free and fair primary. “Let them all go to the field. Let Obidients campaign for Obi, Atikulators for Atiku, and Amaechi supporters for their man. That’s the true spirit of democracy,” he said.
He concluded by describing Atiku as a leader with qualities Nigeria urgently needs, and urged the coalition to embrace transparent, democratic processes in selecting its 2027 presidential flagbearer.
