Organ Harvest: Defendants Seek Extension To File Reply

Defendants in the suit against illegal organ harvesting have asked an FCT High Court to extend their time to file a reply.

The suit was filed by the Legal Aid Counsel on behalf of Salaudeen Saliman Adedoyin, who is the father of a 16-year-old victim of the alleged act. The defendants are Dr Aremu Abayomi Adeniran, Dr Christopher Otabor and Alliance Hospital and Services Ltd. At the resumed hearing on Monday, defence counsel, Ugonna Afiadigwe, informed the court that the fresh motion was also to regularise their appearance in the matter.

She said the motion dated February 14, 2024 is seeking to enlarge the time within which the defendants can file their reply and to deem all previously filed motions as properly filed before the court.

However, counsel to the claimants, E.M. Kolawole, informed the court that although they have no objection to the request, they would like to amend their originating processes.

In reply, Afiadigwe said the claimant’s motion was not ripe for hearing having just been filed on Friday, adding that the defendants are yet to properly be in court.

In his ruling, Justice Abdullahi Aminu held that the claimant’s motion was not ripe for hearing while he ordered that the defence could bring their reply on additional time as requested. He then adjourned the matter until May 2 for hearing.
