PDP Crisis Deepens as Saraki Predicts More Members Will Defect to APC
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has pledged to do everything within his power to reposition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and resolve its ongoing leadership crisis.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday, Saraki acknowledged that while the PDP is facing significant internal challenges, including leadership disputes and defections, it remains Nigeria’s only viable opposition party.
The former Senate President also revealed that more defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are likely in the near future. However, he expressed hope that new members from other political parties could also join the PDP.

Saraki currently chairs the party’s reconciliation committee, which was set up to resolve long-standing internal disputes. The party has struggled with internal divisions, especially since the fallout between its former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the G-5 governors led by Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
One of the ongoing battles within the party involves contention over who should occupy the National Secretary position.
Despite the turbulence, Saraki remains optimistic:
“There are challenges, but I have taken it upon myself to do my best. I’m seeing positive responses from colleagues willing to settle our differences. We’re committed to rescuing the party and confident that we will succeed,” he said.
