PDP Headquarters Still Sealed 48 Hours After Tinubu’s Reopening Order
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has yet to comply with President Bola Tinubu’s order to reopen the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even 48 hours after the directive was issued.
A visit to the PDP National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on Wednesday morning around 11 a.m. revealed that both entrances to the building remained sealed. Staff and private security personnel were seen waiting outside, unable to enter the premises.
The FCTA had sealed the PDP Secretariat on Monday afternoon at approximately 2:06 p.m., citing unpaid ground rent as the reason. This action was part of a wider operation involving the repossession of 4,794 properties across the territory, which collectively owe about ₦6.96 billion in rent arrears, with debts spanning 10 to 43 years.

In reaction to the sealing, PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum condemned the move during a National Caucus meeting, describing it as irresponsible and politically motivated. Conversely, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, defended the operation, emphasizing its legal basis.
Concerned by the tension, President Tinubu intervened on Monday by ordering that the PDP Secretariat and other affected properties be reopened immediately. He also granted a 14-day window for the parties to settle outstanding payments.
Despite the presidential order, the PDP office remains inaccessible. However, a party insider told The PUNCH that negotiations are ongoing to resolve the dispute and reopen the headquarters soon.
