PDP Warns Members Against Joining Opposition Coalition: “We Are Watching and Will Take Action”
The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a stern warning to members considering joining the newly formed Coalition, signaling that their moves are being closely monitored and that consequences will be imposed at the appropriate time.
This message was delivered by acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held at the PDP headquarters on Wednesday. He emphasized the unmatched capacity of the PDP to accommodate its members and suggested that any flirtation with other parties would be short-lived.
Damagum reminded members that the PDP is the only party in Nigeria with a longstanding history of unity and effective conflict resolution. He stressed that those contemplating defection should reconsider, as no other party offers the same level of acceptance and opportunity.

He also warned that members who choose to disparage or undermine the PDP will be held accountable. The acting chairman reiterated that true believers in the party must serve as ambassadors, safeguarding the party’s legacy and contributions to the country.
According to Damagum, the PDP remains more united than ever, having addressed internal challenges during recent meetings and reaffirmed plans to hold the scheduled NEC meeting later this month. He assured members that the party is intact and ready to face upcoming political battles.
In a sharp critique of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Damagum accused the party of attempting to buy off PDP members and harassing them. He reminded the APC that the 2027 general election will be a contest between Nigerians and the APC, urging the ruling party to reconsider its approach amidst growing national challenges such as hunger, insecurity, and extortion.
Damagum concluded by highlighting the importance of listening to the people’s voices in a democracy. He emphasized that policies must be inclusive and oriented toward the needs of all Nigerians, not just a select few.
