Prince Ojoka’s Letter to the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria on your 2 Years in Office

Prince Ojoka

I congratulate you as Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

During your campaigns, you pledged to lead an all-inclusive government and constantly reminded us that you were not seeking material pursuits to the detriment of humanity and the gratification of the soul. We would like to believe you have learnt some hard lessons from your predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, who was a national disaster and a calamity that plunged the country into economic stagnation, political enslavement, and seductive poverty.

Mr. President, the “silent wretched majority” hopes that your administration will be geared towards pursuing more lasting and concrete values necessary for our nation’s survival.

Nigeria is a great country—a land of oil and abundant human resources. We are confident that you will not allow cabals or cartels, who may seek to manipulate the treasury, to ruin your government.

I write on moral grounds, as one conversant with the laws of the land and in the interest of the silent wretched majority. I hope you will examine this letter critically as you appoint members to your cabinet. We hope you prayerfully steer clear of opportunists, inconsequential individuals, and groups lobbying for a share of the national cake.

Mr. President, the silent wretched majority may believe they have an inconsequential President, but I am counting on you to prove them wrong—for my sake and for the unborn future. Your tenure must not echo the failures of the past.

Your government must urgently provide food, jobs, shelter, and money to citizens suffering from the hardship caused by your predecessor, who suffered from a failure of vision. He was a hero of negative policies and you must not repeat his mistakes.

It is shameful that a country which boasts more Mercedes-Benz cars than the manufacturing country and can propose a #57 trillion naira budget in one year, cannot raise the standard of living for its citizens.

As you resume official duties, think of providing free education at all levels, effective healthcare, efficient transportation, car loans for civil servants from Grade Level 10 and above, subsidized housing for all, and mechanized agriculture to ensure food security. Most importantly, open our borders for the greater good. If these can be achieved, even a salary of #30,000 will be sufficient for citizens to feed.

Your predecessor left a legacy of pain and hardship that still bites the lips of those who voted for you. Do not give them another reason to cry.

Mr. President, the silent wretched majority’s bread must come before the cabal’s cake. Focus on providing for the basic needs of Nigerians. Your government must not indulge in luxury while the masses suffer.

Descend from Aso Rock from time to time and interact with the people to understand their struggles. Recognize the difference between luxury and necessity, between bread and cake, between needs and wants. To ignore this is to invite unrest.

Avoid nepotism, tribalism, and favoritism in appointments.

Mr. President, do not suppress public opinion. Press freedom is a right, not an illusion. Uphold all human rights.

Lest I forget, Mr. President, we are all keeping a date with death. But I say to you, you will not die now, but live to fulfill the good works you intend for our nation.

Do not appoint individuals who misappropriated funds, took kickbacks, or stashed public money abroad. Surround yourself with capable individuals willing to serve the people.

Listen to public opinion. You are elected to serve, not to be worshipped or feared.

Under your leadership, the Nigerian economy must blossom. We do not want another recession.

Ensure the judiciary stops prolonged remand of suspects without trial. Justice is a right, not a mirage.

Finally, we, the silent wretched majority, hand over the Nigerian flag to you as a symbol of truth and justice. Do not let it become a banner stained with citizens’ blood as during the #ENDSARS protest.

Build a Nigeria where no man, woman, or child is oppressed because of tribe, region, or religion. Do not return us to the era where uniformed men killed innocent citizens with impunity.

As Commander-in-Chief, you must defend the rights of all citizens.

Today, Mr. President, let us end our helplessness and open a new chapter in Nigeria’s political history. The silent wretched majority wishes you good health and believes you will deliver on your mandate.

LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT! LONG LIVE THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!

— Sir Prince Ojoka Esq.
