Public Interest Litigations: We are solidly Behind you – SPIDEL EGM tells Aikpokpo-Martins led EXCO

The Members of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) on Sunday, 4th February 2024 unanimously passed a vote of confidence on its leaders, led by John Aikpokpo-Martins as Chairman And Funmi Adeogun as Secretary.

SPIDEL at its Extraordinary General Meeting declared the suspension of its activities as “null and void.”

Recall that the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau  had in a letter dated January 31st raised concerns on the activities of the section especially the Public interest litigations.

Maikyau had accused SPIDEL Chairman, John Aikpokpo-Martins of taking unauthorized actions beyond SPIDEL mandate. He consequently ordered officials to halt activities pending a meeting on February 1st

But in a well attended meeting, popular opinion resolved that SPIDEL acted within the arm-bits of the Constitution and that the President lacks powers to suspend its activities.
