SDP Faction Rejects Coalition to Oust Tinubu, Cites Lack of Alternative Vision

He firmly declared that the SDP would not participate in any anti-government coalition lacking a coherent vision and made it clear that the party was not “for sale or lease.”
The faction distanced itself from any alliance seeking to undermine the outcome of the 2023 elections, affirming its commitment to constructive engagement with the federal government to ensure accountability.
Leaders of the SDP across the country were also urged to resist any attempt to unseat them and to report such moves to relevant authorities. Mohammed encouraged party supporters to stay calm, assuring them that efforts to regain full recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are ongoing.
He further condemned what the faction described as the illegal replacement of constitutionally recognized state executives by a rival faction, allegedly in collaboration with the coalition group.
The faction compared the current crisis to a similar 2019 incident, when defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Prof. Jerry Gana, attempted to hijack the SDP’s leadership.
