Supreme Court, Federal High Court Workers Pull Out of JUSUN Strike After CJN’s Intervention
Workers at the Supreme Court of Nigeria have decided not to participate in the nationwide strike set to begin on June 2, 2025, by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN). This decision follows assurances from the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, that concrete steps are being taken to resolve their demands.
In a communiqué released after a closed-door meeting, the Supreme Court chapter of JUSUN announced that Justice Kekere-Ekun had taken meaningful actions, including meeting with the Presidency to push for the release of statutory allocations, payment of wage arrears, a new minimum wage, and the approved 25%/35% salary increase outlined in the 2025 budget.
The statement, signed by Chapter Chairman Comrade Danladi Nda and 11 other officers, described the CJN’s actions as “commendable” and said that joining the strike would be counterproductive. They emphasized the importance of supporting the CJN’s efforts instead of disrupting the progress already made.

While other courts may proceed with the planned strike, Supreme Court workers believe participating would undermine the CJN’s negotiations with relevant authorities. They urged fellow judiciary workers to remain patient and allow these interventions to take effect.
The Supreme Court chapter also stated it is engaging other federal JUSUN chapters to reconsider their strike plans.
In a related development, staff at the National Judicial Council (NJC) and Federal High Court (FHC) have also pulled out of the strike. According to a statement by Joel Ebiloma, spokesperson for the JUSUN NJC chapter, a two-week grace period has been granted to authorities to resolve outstanding issues. Ongoing discussions with stakeholders, including the Accountant General of the Federation, aim to ensure funds are released promptly.
Sources close to the CJN say she has received solid commitments from federal agencies, giving hope that industrial action might be averted entirely if these efforts bear fruit.
