Tap iNitative holds Judicial Accountability Conference March 1st

The importance of accountability within the judiciary cannot be overstated, as the decisions made by judges have far-reaching implications for individuals and society as a whole. Recognizing this critical need, Tap iNitiative, with support from Open Society Foundation, is pleased to announce the forthcoming Judicial Accountability Conference.
Scheduled to take place on March 1, 2024, at Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja. This conference aims to bring together key stakeholders from the legal profession, including members of the bar and bench, media representatives, and educators. Participants and speakers will explore and propose lasting solutions to address the deteriorated level of accountability within Nigeria’s judiciary.

The conference will feature esteemed speakers and panelists, including Musa Dattijo Mohammed JSC (Rtd.), serving as the Keynote Speaker, Ibrahim Buba, a retired Federal High Court Judge, who will chair the panel discussions. Other notable discussants include legal luminaries such as Olumide Akpata, J.S Okutepa SAN, Professor Akinseye George SAN, John-Aikpokpo Martins (Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL), Lilian Okenwa ACIarb (Editor in chief, Law and Order Society Magazine), Chukwuka Ikwuazom SAN, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, Olisa Aigbakoba SAN, and Mrs. Amina Agbaje (National Vice President FIDA), among others.

According to Mbaseke Martin Obono, Executive Director of Tap Initiative, “the conference is an avenue where legal minds can crystallize lasting solutions to Nigeria’s judicial accountability.”

Attendees should expect insightful discussions, thought-provoking presentations, and opportunities for networking and collaboration. “By fostering transparency and accountability within the judiciary, this conference aims to enhance public confidence in the legal system and uphold the principles of justice and fairness” Obono emphasized.
