‘Nigeria has lost an Icon’: A Tribute To His Excellency, Late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON (AKETI)

By Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, OFR, MFR, SAN

It is with full submission to the will of Almighty God and a heavy heart that I pay tribute to my dear friend and brother, His Excellency, Late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON (Aketi) who has gone to be with the Lord.

The Late Aketi served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and until his demise, the Executive Governor of Ondo State. As a barman, he served the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at different times, as Secretary and Chairman of the Ibadan Branch and also as the 24th President of the NBA. During his lifetime, the Late Aketi was a remarkable man who lived a life of great purpose and passion. He was an outstanding leader who served as a mentor to many.

I had the unique privilege of taking Silk along with the Late Aketi on 14 September 1998 and since then, he had remained dear to me.

Nigeria has indeed lost an Icon and a great asset who has made great impacts and whose soul will without doubt be immortalized by his indelible legacies which posterity will forever remember. His legacy of love for justice, wisdom and patriotism will continue to inspire those who knew him.

I convey my deepest condolences, once again, to Her Excellency, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu and the entire family; His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the Ondo State Executive Council; and the good people of Ondo State.

May the memories of the Late Aketi bring us comfort and peace, and may his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen

Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, OFR, MFR, SAN
