Troops Kill 2 Bandits, Recover 1,000 Stolen Cattle in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with personnel from Operation Safe Haven, have neutralised two bandits and recovered 1,000 rustled cattle during a security operation in Jebjeb Village, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, revealed in a statement that the operation followed credible intelligence reports of armed bandits—approximately 30 of them—crossing from Plateau State into Taraba on motorcycles to launch a cattle-rustling attack.

The bandits had targeted a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb Village. Acting swiftly, troops from the 6 Brigade and their counterparts from Operation Safe Haven, stationed in Kampani area of Wase LGA, Plateau State, mobilised and advanced toward Komodoro village.

Upon reaching the location, the soldiers engaged the bandits, who had already begun fleeing into the Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State. A fierce firefight ensued, during which two of the criminals were neutralised.

“The troops successfully recovered about 1,000 rustled cattle,” Oni stated. “The livestock were immediately herded to safety and relocated to the Jebjeb community in Karim Lamido LGA.”

He added that plans are in motion to verify the identities of the cattle owners and ensure the animals are returned to their rightful custodians.

The operation underscores the military’s continued efforts to stamp out banditry and cattle rustling in Nigeria’s troubled north-central region.
