You have turned the office of Chief Prosecutor as tool to fight political enemies: Lawyer tells Okutepa SAN

Mr SJ Onu
An Abuja based legal practitioner Mr. S.J Onu has accused the Chief Prosecutor of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, Mr. J.S Okutepa SAN of turning the office into a political tool to threaten and fight political enemies. This is coming on the heel of the decision of the Nigerian Bar Association’s National Executive Committee, NEC, to reverse its 2016 decision recognizing the Leadership of Ikeja and Abuja Branches.
In a very critical post shared on Social media, Mr Onu said that he was shocked to see Mr. Okutepa celebrating and jubilating with Chief Muyiwa Akinboro, and Mr Ibrahim Eddy Mark at the NEC meeting in Aba because the NEC reversed itself on the decisions in the Leadership of Abuja and Ikeja. In respect of the Abuja crisis, JS Okutepa SAN, the Chief Prosecutor of the NBA has played the most ignoble role as he was seen jubilating with Chief Muyiwa Akinboro SAN after an unethical proceeding at NEC. For me, that is the highest level of professional indiscipline and therefore strips him of any right to remain in the prosecuting committee………”

Mr Okutepa SAN
Mr Onu further accused Mr Okutepa SAN of using the office of Chief Prosecutor of LPDC to further his political ambition at the Bar. He queried the moral ground Mr Okutepa has to issue threat of misconduct to Abuja Branch members because of their resolve to ignore the NEC resolution reached at Aba but didn’t do anything when his friends Chief Akinboro and Mr Mark spear-headed the disobedience to NEC resolutions reached by the NEC on Abuja Branch leadership in 2016.
Mr Onu claimed the Bar Association is under attack at the level of its Executive Committee and that its most important committee, the NBA LPDC Prosecuting Committee, has now been high-jacked for political reasons.
We are yet to get a reaction from Mr JS Okutepa SAN.
